Sure.  And the hacks in tre/src/agrep.c are just crying for a better
interface as well.  Maybe I'll get around to refactoring the code
enough to reveal a better interface some day.

I'm a bit worried about making the ABI very large, though.  I'd like
to avoid having to bump up the version too often.
